Police Chief Simulator Prologue, Demo, and Full Game
Three builds, one station — what each version actually contains.
Police Chief Simulator shipped its tutorial as two free Steam apps, then scheduled the paid county campaign for 17 September 2026. Players bounce off — or overhype — the wrong build. This page compares Prologue – Early Days, the Demo, and the full game using official copy and what those intros actually let you do.
If you want the first-hour order, use Getting Started. If you want the calendar, use release date.
Prologue – Early Days (free, April 2026)
The Prologue is a short “first moments” build. You find the ruined station, restore power, bag trash, take furniture deliveries, visit old Tony’s pawn shop, and open the lobby for the stamp desk. HQ faxes, shredders, and the detective-room teaser all live here. Open-world hunting, full patrol careers, and gang-leader districts are not the point. The end card tells you the final game will expand police activities beyond the building.
Player response was strong for a free intro: Very Positive scores in the mid-80s percent, a few hundred reviews, and a launch-week concurrent peak in the hundreds. People who wanted a shooter called it House Flipper with a badge. People who wanted a management sim called it the good kind of paperwork. Both readings are fair — the Prologue is the broom on purpose. Perfect Circle Team said they wanted you to remember the ruins when the station later runs itself.
Demo (free, July 2026)
The Demo is the larger slice. Steam’s own blurb says it expands the Prologue with additional content and open-world systems: leave the station, explore Winston Springs, mix tickets and street presence with the desk. Creator videos from July onward show first hires, the worn cruiser, and more of the town. Concurrent peaks on Demo launch day were in the high hundreds.
If your question is “do I like this loop for 20 hours?” play the Demo, not only the Prologue. If your question is “can I learn the stamps tonight?” either build works. The controls and solve cases guides apply to both.
Full game (paid, 17 September 2026)
Steam app 2938460 is the campaign the trailers sell:
- Station from outpost to complex
- Hire officers, detectives, and office workers
- Patrol units into county districts
- Investigative minigames that lead to catching suspects
- Clear Shadow’s Gang influence and gang leaders
- Many civilian case types
- Upgrade options that extend reach
September 2026 news added environmental destruction during chases and leaned on the shared Winston Springs universe. None of that is a substitute for launch-week playtests. This wiki still tags the full game as upcoming. Do not write as if the paid campaign has shipped.
Feature comparison (honest, not a spreadsheet fantasy)
| System | Prologue | Demo | Full (studio direction) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean and furnish the station | Yes | Yes | Yes, then keep expanding |
| Stamp / fax / shred desk | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Detective board minigame | Teased / present | Present | Expanded case flow |
| Leave the station | Very limited | Yes | Yes, county-scale |
| Hire staff | Minimal | First hires appear | Officers, detectives, office workers |
| District control / gangs | No | Partial at most | Core goal on the store page |
| Environmental destruction | No | Unlikely the focus | Teased for 17 Sep |
| Price | Free | Free | Paid Steam product |
When a YouTube title says “full game” in April, it is wrong — that was the Prologue. When a stream on 10 September says “EA full release,” treat it as a preview key. Public unlock remains 17 September 2026.
Which build should you install?
- Never stamped a form: Prologue is enough for one evening, then jump to the Demo.
- Already finished the broom: Demo.
- Waiting for gang districts and a long campaign: wishlist the full game; do not expect the Prologue to be that campaign.
- Deck or low-spec PC: read system requirements first. The Prologue’s Deck report was poor.
Saves may not carry forever. Intro builds are tests. Keep a mental note of what you learned (TAB, fax, shredder), not a promise that every prop transfers. After launch, check patch notes for migration language instead of assuming it.
Tone check
The Prologue’s job is to make the later autonomous precinct feel earned. If you hate cleaning, you might still like the Demo’s streets. If you hate the desk, you will hate the full game — the desk is the product. Use beginner tips before you refund a feeling that was the tutorial working as designed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Police Chief Simulator Prologue the full game?
No. It is a free first-moments build. The paid campaign is scheduled for 17 September 2026.
What did the Demo add?
A larger slice of Winston Springs, more systems outside the station, and early hiring/patrol flavour on top of the Prologue desk.
Will my Prologue save carry into the full game?
Do not count on it until official patch notes say so. Learn the skills; treat intro saves as practice.
Why is the opening only cleaning?
The studio described a zero-to-hero rebuild. The broom is the first chapter, not the store-page end state. See the table above.
